FIT wins the Imagine CUP- Sri Lanka for 3rd consecutive time

Imagine Cup Locals winnder 2007

Even though I’m not a Microsoft enthusiastic, I’m very much glad to say that FIT won the Imagine Cup Locals for the 3rd consecutive time after the beginning of the tournament. 1st place, 3rd place and 4th place all came under FIT logo and seemed like FIT dominated the tournament this time. So I wish “SARA” the team which will be going to Korea for the international tournament all the best and hope they will be able bring pride to the island.

Vista Launch-Sri Lanka

On 15th February Microsoft did their islandwide Windows Vista launch. I have to say it was a remarkable ceremony and a very good planning.

The event started at right on the time and went on. I was surprised to see elephants and Kandian dancers in the celebration hall. The idea was to intergrate Sri Lankan traditions and customes with Microsoft Technologies, thereby giving the idea of “Sri Lankan Vista Launch” rather than just “Vista Launch”.

Also there were presents, much food, drinks and much more. Everyone was given a T-Shirt with Vista logo. And also there was a respectable amount of crowd ( I think it was more than 1000 ).

It was a good effort and I think their effort paid off at the end. Here are few pics of the event.

This is bit of out of date. How ever these are the pics of Vista Launch-UOM .

Vista Launch UOM

If I have to describe my last few days it’ll only suit the word hectic. The main reason for that is we organized a Vista introduction programme at UOM. Even though I’m very much contented with XP and Ubuntu, it’s always a nice to know more about new coming technologies and sharing knowledge, discuss them and letting to choose the best. So we organized the event at UOM(this was done at Colombo and Peradeniya Universites last month) and we scheduled it today.

Wijira Aiya(MS Ambassador), Ransara Aiya, Akila and me worked tooth and nail to make this event a success. And many people helped us as possible as they can. Specially my batch mates gave a tremendious help. So with all the help(It was really needed because we had to change the venue of the event from the location we previously planeed with a very short notice) we did the event today. I’m really pleased with the day’s work and it was really “exceeding expections” work. Wela did the morning presentations and afternood sessions were done by Primal Aiya(Colombo MS Ambs) and two of our third level Aiya. Microsoft Sri Lanka gave their support in providing food.(RS 30,000) and some gifts for the participants. So all and all it was a good thing for the faculty and I’m really glad about it.

Tiring days

When I came to university I thought it as a blessing. But now I’m beginning to think whether it’s true. Because we have to work 52 weeks for a year and only get 2 weeks of vacation for whole year. When I came to Uni I was doing freelancing and I didn’t gave it up. But now I’m finding it’s hard give time for it. But then again I think it’s a blessing going to Uni because I met many good people and it’s fun working with friends.

In this week I was busy as possible as I can imagine one could be. Assignments, Mid term tests, Classes are driving me bonkers. However the whole week wasn’t a waste since I got a chance to go to an interview in Vesess (A web company which is still young, but has a good potential in its members and their dedication) . So it was a good experience.

Then on Friday I went to Microsoft-Sri Lanka office for a student champ meeting and I took few of my batch mates with me and they were very satisfied about the meeting. (Student champs is a programme done collaborating Sri Lankan universities by Microsoft Sri Lanka to promote the knowledge of MS technology among the university students)

And yesterday I did a session on C# and .Net for MS Champ programme. I would say it went well but the participation was not that impressive, may be it’s due to the fact there’s a Mid test on next Monday. And for that session I got a little present, a voucher form MS to do MSTS exam free of charge. But more than any thing being able to do some thing for the batch gives a good feeling.

I should really stop this mail before getting too long (is it already?). I have a exam to do tomorrow and have 5 more tutes to read. Better be ready.
